What to Do When School Support Is Not Provided in India
A practical way to record problems, seek a review and clarify the next contact.
Know the limits. Samagra Shiksha is a national framework, but assessment procedures, availability and complaint channels vary between states and schools. This guide is general information, not a substitute for local professional or legal advice. If a child faces immediate safety risks, contact appropriate local services promptly.
Steps to take
- Compare the support discussed with what is actually happening. Record examples and dates without including other pupils' private information.
- Request a review meeting with the class teacher, principal or named special educator; ask which supports can start immediately.
- Seek a written action plan identifying the responsible person, what will change and a review date.
- If concerns remain, ask the district or state education authority which local grievance or inclusive-education route applies; processes differ by state and school type.
What to put in your notes
- Your child's strengths, needs and what they say helps them.
- Specific examples and dates, rather than assumptions about causes.
- The changes or support you are asking the school to consider.
- The name of the person responsible for replying and when you will follow up.
Use the free printable India school meeting checklist to prepare your questions and agreed actions.
Questions to ask at the meeting
- What can be tried now while we understand my child's needs better?
- Who will coordinate the plan and communicate with us?
- How will we know whether the support is helping?
- When will we review progress together?
