Learning support meeting checklist
Use this printable worksheet to prepare for a conversation with your child's school. It is a preparation tool—not a statutory form or a substitute for local guidance.
Before you meet: consider bringing examples of what is working, what is difficult and what your child says they need. Share sensitive records only through appropriate secure school channels.
Before the meeting
- Write down your child's strengths, interests and preferred ways of learning.
- Note two or three specific concerns, with dates or examples where possible.
- Decide what you most want to understand or agree at the meeting.
- Ask who will attend and whether an interpreter or accessibility adjustment can be arranged if required.
Questions to ask
- Who is coordinating learning support at the school or kura?
- What goals will the teacher or kaiako and whānau agree on?
- When will we review progress and decide whether more specialist help is needed?
- What will happen next, who is responsible and when will we meet again?
Record the agreed actions
After the meeting
- Send a short, factual summary of what was discussed and agreed.
- Ask the school to correct any misunderstandings in the summary.
- Keep copies of your notes and agreed follow-up dates.
