Moving home with an IDP in Wales: records, responsibility and continuity
If you move, tell the school and local authority early and keep your own complete copy of the IDP and supporting evidence. Ask who will maintain the plan after the move and how ALP will continue.
Wales uses the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) system and Individual Development Plans (IDPs). England EHCP guidance does not apply.
Before moving
Ask for an up-to-date IDP, latest review documents, professional reports and a record of current provision.
Contact the new authority
Give the new authority the moving date, new address, school information and IDP documents. Ask for a named contact and written confirmation of next steps.
Watch for gaps
Keep a dated record of any interruption to provision and raise gaps promptly in writing.
