School Support Not Being Delivered? Find Your Regional Next Steps
Document the gap between agreed support and delivery, then follow the correct local process for an IEP, EHCP, IDP, statement or other support arrangement.
Prepared by Special Education Path Editorial Team. Use the linked regional guidance for local procedures.
Identify the plan and the missing support
Find the current plan and quote the relevant provision. Separate missed delivery from disagreement about what the plan should contain. Record dates, what was expected, what happened, the available evidence and the effect on learning. Keep facts and assumptions separate.
Use the correct regional guide
| Location | Start here |
|---|---|
| United States | School not following the IEP |
| England | School not implementing EHCP provision |
| Northern Ireland | Statement provision not delivered |
| Ontario | Ontario IEP not implemented |
| Australia | Reasonable adjustments not provided |
| Wales | Review or reconsider a school IDP |
| Scotland | Rights and additional support routes |
| Republic of Ireland | School support and local contacts |
Prepare for the first conversation
- Ask the plan coordinator to confirm what has been delivered and share relevant records through the appropriate process.
- Request a written correction plan with responsibilities and a review date.
- Ask whether the effect of the gap requires further assessment, changed provision or another remedy.
- Keep a dated note of the response and any unresolved issue.
Escalation depends on the issue
A complaint about missing provision can differ from an appeal about assessment, placement or plan wording. The available forum and powers depend on the country, region and issue. Use the local guide and decision notice before selecting a route; there is no single international special education tribunal.
These preparation steps do not require you to exhaust informal discussions before using a formal route where one is available. Check deadlines independently of any meeting timetable.
